  • January 16 - February 28
    📷Of Influence: Portraits of Cherokee People Exhibit

    Beginning January 16th, Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home will present “Of Influence: Portraits of Cherokee People,” a traveling exhibition on loan from the Oklahoma History Center and funded by a grant from the Rome Area Council for the Arts. The exhibition will be open to the public and available with the purchase of regular admission from January 16th through February 28th during museum operating hours, Wednesday-Saturday from 10am-5pm.

    Sixth Annual Floyd County Seed Swap

    While winter winds continue in the new year, spring is just around the corner! Chieftains is proud to partner with Berry College to host the Sixth Annual Floyd County Seed Swap in conjunction with a Family Free Day at the museum on Saturday, March 2nd. Dr. Brian Campbell will speak about seed saving from 11:00-11:45am followed by the seed swap from 12:15-2:00pm. 

  • March 15
    Homeschool Day: Cherokee Crafts

    The theme for this homeschool day is “Cherokee Crafts.” Students will learn about the types of materials the Cherokee people use for recreation by making clay beads. They will also learn the meaning and importance of certain colors by creating beaded bracelets. Finally, students will learn about how certain crafts are made by completing a weaving activity.

    Annual Herb & Plant Sale

    Eagerly anticipated by area gardeners, the Chieftains Herb and Plant Sale will be held this year on Saturday, April 13th and Sunday, April 14th in the Community Building at the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds, rain or shine. Sale hours are 8am to 4pm on Saturday and 12pm to 3pm on Sunday. Credit and debit cards will be accepted in addition to checks and cash.  All proceeds benefit Chieftains Museum/Major Ridge Home. The Herb & Plant Sale is sponsored by Friends of Chieftains Museum, Inc.
