In April, winners were chosen for the Chieftains Museum Trail of Tears Art Contest. Students were challenged to create artwork representing the tragedy of Cherokee Removal as part of the 175th Anniversary of the Trail of Tears. Four winners were chosen and received the following cash prizes:
1st place, $100– Jamie Armstrong, Armuchee High School
2nd place, $75—Olivia Escutia, Pepperell High School
3rd place, $75—Davanna Clayton, Pepperell High School
4th place, $50—Ashleigh Bradford, Pepperell High School
The contest was graciously sponsored through a grant from the Chiaha Guild of Arts & Crafts. Winning artwork is currently on display at the museum for the summer. Look for next year’s art contest to be announced in Fall 2014!
